Tithes

  • God's Part: The tithe belongs to the Lord and is holy
  • Untouchable: Man cannot touch what belongs to God
  • Destination: For the sacred things of God
  • Origin: Principle established since Genesis
💝

Offerings

  • Generosity: Expression of love and gratitude
  • Voluntary: Given by free choice of the heart
  • Any amount: There is no pre-established value
  • From the heart: Motivation is more important than the value

Historical Foundations

Principle in Genesis

From the beginning, God established the principle of separation between the sacred and the common. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was set apart for God, teaching us that there are things that belong exclusively to the Lord.

"But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat..." - Genesis 2:17

Abraham - The First Tithe

The first biblical account of tithing was when Abraham gave a tenth part of everything to Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of the Most High God. This act demonstrated recognition and reverence to God.

"And he gave him a tithe of all." - Genesis 14:20

Question for Reflection

Should we return the tithe today?

This is a fundamental question that every Christian should carefully consider, seeking understanding in the Scriptures and guidance from the Holy Spirit for a response that honors God and reflects true Christian stewardship.

The Lesson of the Poor Widow

A powerful lesson about the value of a sincere offering

💝

Mark 12:41-44

1

The Scene at the Temple

Jesus observed the people putting their offerings into the treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts, but a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

2

The Value of the Offering

Jesus called His disciples and said: "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on."

Spiritual Principles:

  • God does not look at the quantity, but at the proportion and the heart's motivation
  • True generosity is measured by sacrifice, not by absolute value
  • Trust in God leads to total surrender, not just giving what is left over
